An annual activity commemorating the 2006 Guinsaugon landslide in Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte, Philippines. 17 February 2011 marks the 5th Commemoration of the 2006 Guinsaugon landslide which claimed the lives of more than 1,000 individuals. Consequent to the tragic landslide in 2006, the local government developed its capacities and resiliency through strengthened disaster risk reduction management (DRRM).

This year’s event intends to focus on the local government’s DRRM achievements, strengths and weaknesses. It will also hold a DRRM Partners and Donors Forum (Pledging Session). The Forum is organized mainly due to the local government’s immediate necessity for LONG-TERM rehabilitation as a result of the recent calamities which continues to devastate the normal living conditions of the townsfolk.

The objectives of the Forum are to provide an active cooperation platform for all types of organizations from the academe, national government agencies (NGAs), non-government organizations (NGOs), private sectors, and individuals that have contributed to our DRRM initiatives and are willing to help us in reducing vulnerabilities by strengthening our capacities through the provision of assistance in terms of livelihood opportunities, development of permanent relocation areas, creation of climate change-adaptive infra-support facilities, among others. The emphasis of the Forum will be “Kalinga sa Saint Bernard: Building Back thru Public-Private Partnership (PPP)”.
