Background
InterAction is the largest alliance of U.S. Based Int'l Nongovermental Organizations focused on the world's poor and most vulnerable people.
InterAction is seeking an intern for Fall 2009 for its Humanitarian Policy and Practice Team, which focuses on NGO response to natural disasters and complex emergencies. The intern will be responsible for assisting the Director of Disaster Response to support a number of key working groups.
Duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities will include the following:
- Drafting of the Pakistan and Afghanistan Member Activity Reports
- Help to develop content for web pages supporting the Civil Military Working Group, the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group, the Staff Care Working Group, Shelter Working Group and others.
- Provide support during the annual strategic planning processes for these WGs.
- Draft summary reports for relevant WG meetings
- Other tasks as identified by the Director of Disaster Response
The intern will have the opportunity to work with professionals from a variety of NGOs active in disaster response, learn how international agencies respond to emergencies, and attend meetings related to humanitarian crises.
Education
The intern will have completed a minimum of three years of undergraduate coursework and will preferably be working towards a graduate degree. Applicants must be currently enrolled in classes in order to be considered. Competitive applicants must have excellent written and spoken English skills. In addition, strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, are required for the position.
The intern must be able to work with a minimum of supervision and commit to 15-20 hours per week.
