Operational Responsibilities

Teaching:

  • Teach a maximum of 24 credits per academic year including summer. Where the annual teaching load is less than 24 credits, faculty will not be given additional compensation for teaching in the summer.
  • Design and deliver a range of courses that are aligned with own qualifications and experience and meets departmental standards.
  • Provide students with localized experiential and practical learning opportunities.
  • Use RA systems (e.g. learning management system, content management system, curriculum management system, student information system) to deliver and/or manage curriculum, course files, research, advising, tasks, requests, grades and instructional content.  
  • Design, administer, mark, and grade online and face-to-face assessment activities that are compliant with RA policies, procedures, and other guidelines.
  • Provide consulting services to RA and its clients where needed.
  • Deliver a maximum of 10 working days’ worth of vocational training to RA employees and clients.
  • Provide students with localized expertiential and practical learning opportunities.
  • Ensure that data in student and employee systems is up-to-date, including student grades, assessments, instructional content, and course files.
  • Provide advising support to assigned advisees as per the advising procedure.
  • Stay informed about changes and innovations in the field and regularly revise courses to reflect these changes as required.
  • Ensure that student progress is regularly monitored and results of such monitoring are reported in a timely fashion to the Program Chair.
  • Participate in student support on academic, career and personal development matters

Research:

  • Conduct scholarly activities as per goals set at the beginning of the appraisal cycle.
  • Conduct research and publish on topics related to the BCM/ IEM specializations or pedagogy papers, in highly ranked Scopus indexed journals.
  • Apply for internal and external research grants to advance one’s scholarship agenda.
  • Encourage students to work on research projects and coauthor publications by providing advise, supervision and mentorship.
  • Extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching and other appropriate external activities.
  • Attend academic events, professional development workshops, conferences and networking events with other reserachers and field experts.

Service:

  • Provide consulting services to RA and its clients where needed.
  • Assist in meeting quality assurance targets set by the Academy, including the validation and revalidation of courses, and student admissions and assessments.
  • Assist with training and recruitment of new faculty and advise, mentor and support less experienced colleagues on meeting personal development.
  • Participate and be a recognized contributor to BCM & IEM subject associations, societies and relevant professional bodies.
  • Adhere to the Academy’s information security policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
  • Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Program Chair, Dean’s designee or top management, to support functional activities of departmental committees.

Qualification

Doctorate (PhD) in a relevant field including, but not limited to business management, homeland security, organizational management, business continuity management,  emergency management, risk management, disaster risk governance or geospatial information.

  • Experience as BCM & IEM professional is considered an asset but is not essential; preference is for those with at least five years field or policy experience in BCM & IEM.
  • Completion of ranking promotion process; demonstrates a proven record of publication and definable research program, excellent organizational skills, adaptability, and appropriate cultural awareness for appointment.
