Course overview

Disaster risk reduction requires all-of-society engagement and partnership. It also requires empowerment and inclusive, accessible and nondiscriminatory participation, paying special attention to people disproportionately affected by disasters.

The course aims to develop skills and competencies of DRR practitioners by providing them with gender lenses throughout the program management cycle: from assessment, analysis, planning to implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Participants will be provided with tools and practical understanding to mainstream gender and development in disaster risk reduction programs.

Course structure

This course consists of five (5) modules;

  • Module 1: Key concepts and links: Gender and DRR
  • Module 2: Gender mainstreaming tools
  • Module 3: Gender in program implementation
  • Module 4: Gender-responsive monitoring and evaluation
  • Module 5: Budget

Target participants

Project staff, government and non-government partners who are involved in design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of climate change and disaster risk reduction programs. The training will include practical guidance on addressing gender and women's empowerment in disaster risk reduction programs. It will provide practical application of gender mainstreaming in disaster risk reduction projects/programs.
