Legislation for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction

The aim of this report is to encourage national and donor governments to develop and improve their disaster risk reduction legislation. This summary contains four sections covering: an analysis of existing disaster risk reduction legislation; the building blocks of successful legislative reform according to individual nations’ experience; a detailed account of the reform process in South Africa from 1994 to 2005; and recommendations for those undertaking legislative reform for DRR.
