Call for contributions: good practices on the role of local governments in reducing disaster risks
Local-level implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action remains a major challenge to achieve, which requires the active participation and involvement of local government actors at different levels of responsibility. It is at the local level that development planning is expected to first take place, and where disaster risk reduction must be first integrated into development processes. A growing number of local administrations are incorporating DRR as part of their responsibility toward their citizens. However, although interesting examples of DRR are emerging from the ground, there is a need to further promote these practices and encourage their replication on a broader scale.
To this end, the UNISDR secretariat is producing a compilation of good practices and lessons learned in this important area of work. This publication will highlight projects and initiatives implemented by local authorities that demonstrate how DRR can be addressed at the sub-national and local levels, and contribute to developing sustainable development practices.
