The Mission of ACEDRR is to provide evidence based knowledge for enabling integration of disaster risk reduction in mainstream development and encourage community driven models and solutions for sustainability of disaster risk reduction.
The Centre aims to become a centre of excellence in the field of disaster risk reduction through:
- Building and sharing knowledge gained from practice.
- Pioneering in research, networking and policy advocacy.
- Encouraging innovations and action.
The principles ACEDRR are:
- Giving primacy for the indigenous knowledge, wisdom and practices of the communities in disaster risk reduction
- Promoting partnership models and community driven approaches for disaster risk reduction
- Advancing the knowledge and practices in disaster risk reduction
- Enabling disaster risk reduction through multi-sectoral, inter-disciplinary, and multi-stakeholder action.
It prepared policy for drought and flood for DHAN Collective Institutions also it provides a course on DRR for the students of Tata-Dhan Academy, Madurai and it organises Advanced Reflective education and Training Programme on DRR.

ACEDRR, as a centre for learning, will:
- Document the good practices and DRR models already in existence and will disseminate this knowledge to a wide audience.
- Experiment with, develop, and disseminate various tools, techniques, and models for DRR.
- Create and maintain a DRR database which will cater to the needs of professionals, institutions, and the community.
- Involve community based research and policy research in the area of disaster risk reduction.
ACEDRR strives to work at the local, national, regional, and global levels and will be seen in its involvement with five distinct streams of activities such as:
- Action research,
- Training and education,
- Documentation and publication,
- Policy advocacy and awareness, networking, and
- Consultancy.

- Extensive programme implementation in Tsunami relief, rehabilitation and conservation throughout the coast of Tamilnadu.
- Under taking pilot project on climate change
adaptation with GIZ.
- Facilitation in extensive coverage of the vulnerable communities under Government health insurance programme and in promotion of SUGAM hospitals which is owned be deserving poor communities
- Facilitated to create drought/flood mitigation funds at community institutions across India

- Policy directions on drought and flood disasters for community institutions
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
