Municipality has been working for the last two years on eliminating the environmental risk due to the huge garbage mountain on the shores of Saida:
1. Opening the waste treatment plant (already treating a round 180 tons / day)
2. Building a breakwater facing the mountain area in the sea to stop the garbage from going into the sea endangering maritime life.
3. Contracting an international contractor in collaboration with UNDP for eliminating and sorting the garbage mountain (should start working in spring 2013)
4. Planning a green area in place of the existing mountain
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
