Peer review report: Georgia 2015
This peer review of disaster risk management and civil protection systems provides Georgia with a valuable opportunity to reflect on its capacity to cope with natural hazards and human-induced disasters and to identify ways of strengthening its prevention and preparedness policy and practices. It also facilitates the exchange of good practices. The peer review programme is a tool made available to civil protection authorities of Member States, participating states, enlargement and neighbourhood countries under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism legislation. It is managed by the Commission's Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid department.
The peer review of Georgia's disaster risk management and early warning systems highlights its proactive engagement in disaster preparedness, aligning with EU and global standards. This review provides a platform to enhance risk assessment frameworks, integrate early warning systems, and promote interagency collaboration across all levels of government. Recommendations include establishing a comprehensive national risk assessment framework, improving early warning mechanisms, and fostering greater stakeholder communication. Georgia's commitment to resilience, along with these improvements, is expected to strengthen its ability to mitigate and respond to diverse hazards.
