Learning from El Niño Costero 2017: Opportunities for building resilience in Peru
This Post-Event Review Capability (PERC) aims to improve the understanding of how disaster risk management, and resilience efforts at large, manifested during and after the 2017 floods in Peru. These floods resulted from a sudden warming of coastal waters and an unusual easing of trade winds that resulted in torrential rainstorms from February to April 2017.
Through extensive desk-review and a series of interviews with key disaster risk management experts and players, the PERC explores how risk reduction activities have contributed to resilience, and where there are resilience gaps and opportunities for building resilience in the aftermath of the flood to ensure that pre-existing patterns of vulnerability are not perpetuated or exacerbated.
