Facilitating knowledge management for adaptation planning in Africa: Inventory of adaptation planning tools and frameworks
This study was conducted under the project, ‘Facilitating Knowledge Management for Adaptation Planning in Africa. The project’s goal is to enhance resilience of farming systems and livelihoods to climate change through wide-scale use of suitable adaptation planning tools. This study addressed the project’s first objective of reviewing existing frameworks, tools, and methodologies, and assessing their potential and effectiveness for adaptation planning.
Generally, the study found that while several adaptation planning tools and frameworks exist, the awareness and knowledge of national stakeholders about these tools seems low. Consequently, their use by national stakeholders for adaptation planning is limited. Therefore, there is need for investment and efforts to promote widescale dissemination of the tools and frameworks most applicable for adaptation planning in Africa. These investments and efforts should be intentional.
