New Zealand: Local authority insurer requests disaster backstop

The Government is being asked to bear the full cost of any natural hazard that befalls a local authority in the next two months, and up to 90 per cent of such risk for the next two years, as the local body infrastructure insurer seeks time to recover from the Canterbury earthquakes, reports the Dominian Post.
