Three field visits offered by Switzerland

Immediately following the Fourth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, Switzerland invites participants to join in a choice of three field visits on Friday 24 May 2013.

The aim of the field visits is to directly observe the threats, challenges and opportunities of living in a risk prone environment, and experience the practical side of disaster risk reduction.

Option 1 will be taking a tour of Route du Grand St. Bernhard to learn about risk management along an international transit route. Option 2 will be to see how flood risk management techniques are being used along the Rhone River. The third field visit will provide insight into the Integrated Risk Management approach, including the seismic retrofitting of buildings and infrastructure. The tour will showcase preparedness, recovery plans and management of a possible low frequency earthquake event.
