Description

Implementation of disaster risk reduction at the local level remains the greatest challenge towards building the resilience of nations and communities. Views from the Frontline (VFL) is the largest global review of progress made towards implementation of the HFA at the local level ever undertaken. It is also the first review to simultaneously engage with key stakeholder groups in local governments, civil society and at-risk communities in an independent assessment process.

The review was undertaken in forty countries across eight geographical regions involving 400 civil society organisations conducting face-to-face interviews with over 4,000 people. The main results from VFL serve as a credible evidence base to inform policy recommendations and define investment priorities to accelerate HFA implementation at the local level. Findings from the VFL review should serve to compliment the national level HFA Monitoring and Progress Review being coordinated by the UN-ISDR.

Expected Outcomes

The main findings and key policy recommendations of the View From the Frontline will be presented during this special session, with a view to establishing a clear picture of progress at the local level within the participating countries and help focus attention on key challenges, constraints and critical success factors.
