4th Disaster Resilience Workshop

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD is hosting the fourth in a series of workshops on Disaster Resilience of Communities on February 18-19, 2015 at the Hilton San Diego/Del Mar Hotel, in Del Mar, California.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a first generation framework that will provide a methodology for all communities to improve their resilience to hazard events, maintain their social fabric during and after disruptive events, and increase their economic prosperity.The Framework is the first step in a long-term, stakeholder-driven process that will provide communities with guidance to withstand and more rapidly recover from disruptive events.

NIST will post a nearly-complete working draft of the Disaster Resilience Framework for review by participants one week prior to the workshop.This draft benefits from comments received during previous workshops, public input from a diverse body of stakeholders, and the contributions of the NIST Disaster Resilience Fellows.

The workshop will focus on resilience planning and implementation, considering interdependencies among buildings, infrastructure, and the social systems in a community; resilience tools and metrics; and establishment of the Disaster Resilience Standards Panel.

The NIST-hosted workshop will begin each day at 8:30 am and will adjourn at 2:15 pm on February 19. The meeting is open to any interested party, however, space is limited.
