2nd UNESCO IOC Global Tsunami Symposium - Two Decades After 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami: Reflection and the Way Forward
The UNESCO-IOC and BMKG have initiatives to hold the UNESCO-IOC Global Tsunami Symposium on the Reflection of the Two Decades Indian Ocean Tsunami 2004 Commemoration. The symposium will bring together scientists, engineers, practitioners, and policy-maker from all over the globe to discuss the state of the art and the latest advances in tsunami science and engineering for better tsunami disaster preparedness, and mitigation.
Objective
- To commemorate 2 decades after 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.
- To reflect what has been achieved by each regional tsunami warning and mitigation system in two decades.
- To identify gaps, challenges and priorities for tsunami early warning.
- To identify synergy with global challenges and coherence with global commitments. Shared learnings between countries and application in the Regional Oceans.
- To gather global tsunami community.
Scopes
- Pre-Event (8–9 November 2024): International Scientific Workshop hosted by IABI in collaboration with USK-TDRMC.
- Main Event (11–14 November 2024): the 2nd UNESCO-IOC Global Tsunami Symposium.
- Special Event: Posters Sessions, Exhibitions and Ignite Stages.
