Help create policies that will save lives across Mongolia. Working with the nation’s peak body for disaster management, you will ensure that policies and frameworks are supported by best practice tools and international standards.

This is a volunteer assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) coordinates all disaster and emergency operations in Mongolia, including fire fighting and search-and-rescue operations. NEMA is also responsible for developing a legal environment and an information system for disaster prevention and response.

As part of an ongoing partnership with Australian Red Cross, NEMA is seeking a volunteer to help develop disaster management policies and frameworks. The volunteer will work closely with NEMA policy makers to apply international tools and best practices to the development of policies for Mongolia, and support staff to understand international regional-level disaster risk reduction frameworks and initiatives.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

•Experience in developing disaster management policy documents
•Sound mentoring or coaching skills
• Qualifications in education desired or equivalent professional experience in disaster management policy and planning
•Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
