Save the Children, the leading independent organization creating real and lasting change for children in need in the U.S. and around the world, Advisor Emergency Preparedness and Response. S/he will develop, manage, monitor and evaluate Save the Children?s disaster risk reduction and agency emergency preparedness strategies and interventions. This position will also involve managing and responding to international disasters and crisis. A key leadership position within the organization to develop global preparedness and response strategies as well as providing on-going technical assistance to country office and programmatic staff. Responsibilities will include developing and reviewing the agency?s disaster risk reduction and preparedness goals and objectives, budget and fund raising, project implementation, and program evaluation in accordance with Save the Children?s Agency strategic plan. An integral part of the position will be to provide substantial input into new project design and proposal development, particularly in community-based disaster risk reduction.

Required Skills

The successful candidate must possess Masters Degree or equivalent relevant experience. At least 7-10 years international emergency preparedness and response experience, with significant experience working in large-scale emergency settings. Proven success in designing and implementing community-based disaster risk reduction projects. Experience in managing programs in a large-scale emergency relief setting with sectoral experience in protection, health and nutrition, resource provisioning, food security and livelihoods. Experience with INGO procedures, approaches, and operations. Proven ability to work with multi-cultural staff including training, facilitation, capacity building and mentoring. Candidates must have a minimum 4 years experience working in a developing country with the ability to rapidly deploy and travel internationally. Knowledge of second language desirable. Proven experience working in a high stress environment and ability to live in conditions of physical hardship. Must have familiarity and experience with emergency preparedness and response best practices such as Sphere standards, conducting HVCAs, hazard mapping, PRAs, community mobilization, HAP, etc.
