CERO's missions are to develop, promote and maintain a comprehensive National Disaster Programme to educate all citizens about the various elements of disaster management; to create appropriate mechanisms to promote and advance disaster management activities; to promote and institutionalize the practice of appropriate preventative and mitigation measure for all possible hazards; to promote the development and maintenance of effective warning, response and recovery plans for all sectors of the society.
The role of CERO in Barbados is not seen simply as that of rendering "salvation after the storm"; but rather to encourage, equip and accustom the people in all walks of life to work together for their own preservation. Its role is one of activating the community to be prepared to deal with any type of disaster.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
