UNDP Mauritius is supporting the continuous efforts of the Government toward Sustainable Development. The current UNDP Country Programme is based on three axes of intervention: planning and resource management for inclusive growth, social inclusion and empowerment and energy and the environment.
Disaster Reduction Goal
The current UNDP supported Disaster Reduction projects in Mauritius aims to:
- Strengthen the institutional framework for Disaster Risk Management;
- Produce and disseminate information on risks and vulnerabilities for sound decision-making;
- Support the development of early-warning systems;
- Build local capacities.
Making disaster risk reduction a policy priority, institutional strengthening (HFA 1)
Under the UNDP supported Africa Adaptation Programme for Mauritius a Disaster Risk Reduction strategic framework and action plan, including vulnerability maps, has been developed. The risks covered by this study include: inundation, flooding and landslide.
Risk assessment and early warning systems (HFA 2)
Through the \"Climate Change Adaptation for the coastal zones of Mauritius\" project, UNDP is supporting Mauritius Meteorological Services to set up a storm surges early-warning system.
Preparedness for effective response (HFA 5)
Through the \"Climate Change Adaptation for the coastal zones of Mauritius\" project, UNDP is supporting the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development for the building of an eco-designed refugee center in a flooding / inundation prone area of the coast.
