New research finds that Europe's current breeding programmes and cultivar selection practices do not provide sufficient climate resilience. Moreover, the response diversity of wheat on farmers' fields in most of Europe has worsened in past years. Greater variability and severity of local weather will lead to reduced wheat yields and increased yield variability.
New research finds that heat and drought will both challenge crop production in Europe, but drought in particular will be a problem. While it seems irrelevant to separate heat from drought, this distinction is important because the defence mechanisms of plants against drought are different from those used to protect against heat stress.

Voluntary Commitments
The organization has no registered commitments.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR.
