Sri Lanka gets Canadian support for disaster planning
Sri Lanka has received support to train government officials and NGOs for response to disasters, such as the Indian Ocean Tsunami, which caused devastation along parts of the coastline in 2004.
"Pro-active cooperation in early warning, communication, analysis and evacuation systems can help Sri Lanka to estimate the efficiency of the overall system and to propose improvements which can be crucial,” said the High Commissioner for Canada, Angela J. Bogdan, during the opening of a two-day workshop for officials on Natural Disaster Risk Reduction and Planning, supported by the Canadian International Development Agency.
