Description

The current process for the elaboration of the Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) Strategy Beyond 2012 coincides with consultation process on a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction. The CDEMA Coordinating Unit and the Regional UNISDR Office have been working closely to maintain synergies in the consultative processes undertaken for the development of both strategies.

Given that the time frame for the conclusion of the CARICOM CDM Strategy and Programming Framework 2007-2012 predates that of the HFA Priorities for Action, The Global Platform provides a unique opportunity to sharing widely the initial findings of the review of the CDM Strategy and Programming Framework 2007-2012. CDEMA is currently within the process of designing its new Programming Framework (Beyond 2012) and as such there is a distinct opportunity to promote synergies and engage broader stakeholder consultation on the definition of new priorities for action.

This consultative event will further provide key contributions to the current discussions on the framing of the Hyogo Framework for Action post 2015.

Objectives of the session are:
1. To share the achievements from the CDM Strategy and Programming Framework 2007-2012
2. To enhance awareness of the emerging priority areas for the CDM Strategy Beyond 2012
3. To promote and discuss possible integration/linkages/contributions to the HFA/SIDS+20/MDGs
4. To explore the Resilience Discussion to include CCA within the context of the new Framework

Expected Outcomes

1. Enhanced awareness of the achievements of the CDM Strategy and Programming Framework 2007-2012 and the emerging priority areas for the CDM Strategy Beyond 2012
2. Enhanced synergies between the CDM Strategy Beyond 2012 and CCA as well as the HFA/SIDS+20/MDGs
