Description

One of the significant achievements of The Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015 (HFA): Building the resilience of nations and communities to disasters has been its ability to mobilize diverse stakeholders in support of government efforts to reduce disaster risk. This diversity of actors has brought wide ranging experience and technical expertise to implementation and has reinforced political commitment and broad ownership of this agenda that affects all sectors of society.

Results of HFA2 consultations to date (March 2012 – April 2013) are reflected in the ‘Synthesis Report on Consultations on a Post-2015 Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (HFA2)’ which is available online at: http://preventionweb.net/go/32535

At the Fourth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, some stakeholder groups (such as parliamentarians, private sector, intergovernmental organizations, national platform representatives, communities, NGOs/CSOs and mayors/local governments) will hold consultations on a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (HFA2) in the morning of the 20 May.

Participants in each of the morning stakeholder consultations session will be invited to send a group of representatives to a "Joint Session with Stakeholders". This joint session provides an opportunity for stakeholders to share their views with each other in an informal setting.

Key discussion points from the morning consultations within each stakeholder group session will set the stage for a dialogue between stakeholders that seeks to establish common ground on the design and substance of HFA2. Outcomes will be included in a report on HFA2 global consultations at the Fourth Session of the Global Platform.

The objective of the session is to explore common ground on substance for a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (HFA2).

Expected Outcomes

• Further guidance and input into the design and development of a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (HFA2)
