Description
The Thematic Platform will gather actors from government, private, non-government, civil society, academic and research institutions and community organizations whose activities contribute to improving health outcomes for people at risk of emergencies, disasters and other crises.
The role of the Thematic Platform is to advocate, share information and catalyse action on emergency and disaster risk management for health, and to implement the Hyogo Framework for Action through health and other sectors. This workshop at the 4th Session of the Global Platform provides a forum for all delegates and interested parties to present their latest initiatives, learn from each other’s experiences, take steps to consolidate the Thematic Platform, and discuss how the health imperative should be advanced in the consultations on a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction and the post-2015 development agenda.
The platforms' expected objectives are:
1. Share good practice case studies, latest initiatives and experiences of projects on emergency and disaster risk management for health from across the world, including pandemic preparedness, sexual and reproductive health, safe hospitals, child health, disability,
2. Discuss health inputs to a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction
3. Chart the future of the thematic platform in relation to developments in both disaster risk management and health communities.
4. Agree to the annual work plan for the thematic platform on emergency and disaster risk management for health
Expected Outcomes
1. Progress reports on health emergency and disaster risk management projects and initiatives across the world
2. Health-related inputs to present in the informal plenaries on a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction and the Featured Event on Health
3. Agreement on the annual work plan for the thematic platform on disaster risk management for health
4. A review of the Terms of Reference for the Thematic Platform on Emergency and Disaster Risk Management for Health.
