Regional Consultations with African Delegates (by UNISDR)

Description
The session will feature the outcomes of the 4th Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in February 2013, the 5th Drought Adaptation Forum and the Africa Working Group Meeting, which took place in April 2013, on progress made in HFA implementation to date as well as recommendations for a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction.
An Africa position for the Fourth Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction was developed and refined during the regional events, which summarizes African concerns and recommendations to the global discussion, featuring emerging challenges and priorities for the region. The session also aims at leveraging the presence of African delegates at the Global Platform, and coordinate, strengthen and reinforce a common voice representing African concerns during the main events of the Global Platform for DRR.
Specific objectives:
• Share Summary Statement of the 4th Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, and outcomes of Meeting of the Africa Working Group
• Fine-tune Africa Report to the Global Platform
• Present report of African post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction consultations to the delegates
• Explore the possibility of organizing ministerial conference in 2014 and discuss implementation of the Programme of Action for the Africa Regional Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Expected Outcomes
• African delegates to the platform are aware of the Africa Report to the Global Platform
• African delegates are informed about the report of the post-HFA consultations and recommendations
• Agreement on who will inform the Africa position during the Global Platform 2013.
