Description

The UNISDR Private Sector Advisory Group (PSAG) aims to serve as a catalyst to bring together a wide range of private sector entities into a global partnership for action that will encompass private businesses, both large and small, multi-regional and local, business trade organizations, as well as government-owned business enterprises.
At the 2011 Global platform private sector launched a Statement of Commitment: 'The 5 Essentials for Business in Disaster Risk Reduction'. In order to build an actionable platform around the commitment and the '5 Essentials', the PSAG decided to create the Disaster Risk Reduction – Private Sector Partnership (DRR-PSP).
The creation of the DRR-PSP brings structure and facilitates the private sector contributions to disaster risk reduction by mobilizing resources through core business arrangements for joint actions and corporate social responsibility (CSR). The DRR-PSP establishes the foundation for building disaster risk reduction through private sector partnerships.

This Annual General Meeting for the private sector brings together private sector partners that are members of the PSAG, the DRR-PSP and other companies that are interested to contribute in the future. Practical experiences and good practices will be shared.
Future opportunities on how the private sector can do more for DRR will be highlighted . The focus will be on the ‘how’: the role of UNISDR as coordinator, companies’ approaches, concrete milestones and ways of measuring impact of contributions.
During the multi-stakeholder consultations for the post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction the private sector will have an important voice. During this Annual General Meeting the private sector will be consulted and asked for input on their role, responsibilities and opportunities for contribution in the consultation on a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction.

As the post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction cosnultation is given a special focus at this Global Platform, the Private Sector Partnership will hold a dedicated session on the topic on Monday 20 May from 14.00 - 15.00 called 'Post-2015 framework for DRR consultation - Private Sector'
