DPPI SEE disaster risk reduction course
The 2nd Disaster risk reduction (DRR) course is jointly organized/ hosted by the Disaster & Emergency Management Presidency of Turkey (AFAD) and the Disaster Preparedness & Prevention Initiative for South Eastern Europe (DPPI SEE) in collaboration with UN/CADRI and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).
The programme aims to create DRR capacity in the region at all levels with the intention of achieving better understanding and management of disasters.
The one-week course focuses on a holistic approach to reducing risks, responding to and recovering from disasters specific to the region of South-Eastern Europe. The course provides in depth orientation on disaster risk reduction concepts and guidance, including the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), as well as understanding the key aspects and activities of response and recovery. The course builds upon participants’ existing knowledge base so they can relate disaster risk reduction issues in practical terms to their day-to-day work responsibilities. The course will also allow participants to apply practice to a case study or a simulation exercise culminating in a group project and presentations at the end of the course.
