Description

The health sector is conducting numerous activities worldwide for building capacity to address the health aspects of disaster risk reduction. This includes the World Disaster Reduction Campaign focusing on Hospitals Safe from Disasters. Nevertheless, much more work needs to be done to strengthen the integration of health in disaster risk reduction, and to bring disaster risk reduction into the work of the health sector. This side event will highlight global health risk reduction activities and facilitate discussions on future directions for strengthening health risk reduction across the world.


Expected Outcomes

• Progress report on the World Disaster Reduction Campaign on Hospitals Safe from Disasters
• Share experience of good practices related to Safe Hospitals
• Enhanced awareness of the health risk reduction actions
• Future directions for the development of health risk reduction, including plans for a technical platform for health risk reduction
• Development of recommendations related to health risk reduction for the Chair’s Summary.
