Description

The South–South Cooperation Program (SSCP) is a GFDRR initiative to facilitate collaboration among disaster prone low- and middle-income countries (called South countries) and help them mainstream disaster risk reduction and recovery into their development programming. The Program's objective is to tap the accumulated knowledge of the South and catalyze peer learning and collaboration by mobilizing the leadership, creativity, technical know-how, and practical experience of governments, institutions, networks, and communities of the South. The South–South Cooperation Program provides grant financing to innovative partnership proposals to facilitate the cross regional and cross country collaboration in disaster risk management based on mutual interest and benefit of partnering entities. The 2009 Call for Proposals was announced in May and the deadline for submissions is June 30. The side event is organized for interested partnerships to help them develop fundable partnership proposals. During the meeting the potential partnerships will have the opportunity to work on their proposals with help and assistance from resource people from WB, GFDRR and UN agencies.

Expected Outcomes

The workshop aims at providing an opportunity and platform for partnering members of the potential partnerships to work jointly on the design and structure of their collaboration, develop the specifics of the partnership arrangements, explore the mutual benefits and agree on individual commitments. Staff from WB, UN agencies and recipients of previously approved partnership grants will assist the partnerships with technical advice and facilitation to sharpen the focus of their proposals, and to design activities and work program that allow to realize the full potential of their partnerships.
