SE5: Accessing space-based information to support disaster risk reduction

Description

The UN-SPIDER programme, the Secretariat of GEO, ADRC, and UNESCAP are conducting this Side Event to discuss how space-based information is used in disaster risk reduction and disaster response and recovery; to share lessons learned and best practices; and to provide key information on applications, portals, and emerging trends. UN-SPIDER will launch the Global Thematic Partnership on the use of space based information to support the full disaster management cycle. GEO will discuss the benefits of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). ESCAP will promote a regional platform for harmonizing space-based tools and information for disaster risk management in Asia and the Pacific region, and ADRC will present its activities in this context. The format of the side event will consist of thematic presentations followed by a discussion.
