The Role of Ecosystems Management in Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction

  • Date & Time: Wednesday 17 June (16:30 - 18:30)
  • Room: 3
  • Participation: Open
  • Organizer: UNEP

Description

Experiences from around the world have shown that healthy ecosystems can lower disaster risks. While promoting healthy ecosystems is not new, applying an integrated management approach that accounts for the full values of ecosystems in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation/ mitigation is less widely understood and advocated. The Round Table represents an opportunity to share country-level perspectives and to determine future cooperation and political commitment in promoting ecosystems as a critical component of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation strategies, both at the global and national levels. Key agreements from the Round Table will be presented at COP15 in December 2009 to renegotiate a post-2012 climate change agreement.
