Urban risk - Increasing the Effectiveness of Local Action on Risk Reduction and Adaptation

  • Date & Time: Wednesday 17 June (11:00 - 13:00)

Description

Urban risks, emanating from natural hazards and climate change, threaten more than ever before the role of cities as drivers of local and national development and growth. Yet while the role of local and regional authorities as well as local actors is explicitly recognized in the Hyogo Framework for Action, the main international mechanisms for policy formulation, program planning, advocacy, awareness and funding have been directed towards central Governments. The Round Table discussions will focus on issues such as changes in the legal and institutional arrangements for urban risk reduction and the role of global campaigns in putting urban risk reduction at the top of the agenda of local authorities and the international community.
