Global Achievements and Challenges in Implementing the Hyogo Framework for Action

• Presentation of the main findings from the Global Assessment Report, HFA Monitor and new developments since the First Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in 2007 by Margareta Wahlström, Assistant Secretary-General and Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction.

• Presentation of the report from the ISDR Scientific and Technical Committee for Disaster Risk Reduction by Walter Erderlen, Chair, Scientific and Technical Committee, Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences, UNESCO.

• "Views from the Frontline" a presentation on civil society’s contribution to implementing the Hyogo Framework for Action by Marcus Oxley, Global Network of Civil Society Networks for Disaster Risk Reduction.

• A report on behalf of the World Water Council by Loic Fauchon, President.

• A report by the Chair of the ISDR Support Group, Mr. Carlos Foradori, Argentina.

Regional Achievements and Challenges in Implementing the Hyogo Framework for Action
• With the Chair as Moderator, Regional Inter-Governmental Organizations that have developed a regional report on the HFA implementation will present their main findings and recommendations.


Expected Outcomes

This Plenary segment will provide an overview and highlights on lessons, findings and recommendations from global and regional reports prepared since the Global Platform in 2007, and following the recommendations from that session. The reports provide a stocktaking of the achievements and outstanding gaps in HFA implementation at different levels, with a clearer sense of the need for action and the directions of that action.
