The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) is developing an enhanced emergency alerting app, which will be available to the public next year.

Six Caribbean islands, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Sint Maarten, Montserrat and Turks and Caicos Islands, benefit from an 18-month project designed to build the energy resilience of these islands while reducing their vulnerability.

This is a comic for youth and adults to raise awareness on the importance of leaving no one behind in times of COVID-19 during hurricane season. This comic has been designed for the Caribbean, but can be used in other parts of the world.

Ahead of hurricane season, officials are strengthening the Virgin Islands VHF Emergency Network with improved transmission capabilities and 75 new VHF handsets.

During a recent conference, the British Virgin Islands received praise for its iLAND project, which has helped prepare the Caribbean for climate change. The project included a boulder revetment that withstood the unprecedented storm surge of Hurricane Irma. Other initiatives, including road drainage improvements and various policies, also derived from the effort.

The British Virgin Islands will be financing the re-establishment and upgrade of a territory-wide multi hazard early warning system to the tune of U.S. $1.5 million. By the end of the project, the Department of Disaster Management will have installed nearly 400 systems with some form of warning communication.
