Mehran SamavatiOne of the most effective ways to encourage national actions to improve DRR implementation at local level would be to arrange an educational system. That system could help local residents become familiar with local risks. As a result, it will be more easier for government to inform people of how they can be helpful when it comes to DRR. Otherwise, they may not understand that the government is not able to manage the process alone.March 2013

Gopi KrishnaMy interest is in the local level disaster risk reduction, especially in local governance. We need to strengthen our local communities to make them disaster resillient, our disaster activities should be focused on that level. Let's make local government to be capable to handle local level disasters. Smaller disaster are mostly neclected world wide, which shouldn't.March 2013

Dr Sudhir GandhiRisk Reduction Practices in Urban areas are having different settings like : Collapse of Multistory Buildings, Electrical & Fire accidents, Acute shutdowns of civic facilities, Traffic-Jams, Terrorist attacks and vague rumors of riots,bomb-blasts,chaos at large gatherings and so on. Disaster Risk Reduction Preparedness-Plans and Mock-Practices require to be modulated accordingly. This will require all-round awareness among all related agencies like Emergency Medicine, Fire & Police, Civil Defense, Warning systems, Alternative Traffic arrangements, future planning of urban areas,all line departments and very important Civil Administrators and Local Members elected by people. Continuous training and re-training with at least once-in a year review and updation of existing plans and all contact details contained in the plans is of prime importance. Today is an era of multi-tasking but still I would like to recommend this work to a selected group of dedicated staff.- Dr Sudhir Gandhi.March 2013 -
