Summary

Warehousing and logistics are critical to any country’s disaster preparation plans. Australian Red Cross is looking for a volunteer to work with UNICEF to implement systems, training and procedures that enable emergency supplies to reach communities quickly in the event of famine or natural disasters.

Purpose of the position

The humanitarian emergency caused by a recent dzud (harsh winter) highlighted the urgent need to improve logistics systems and planning in Mongolia. UNICEF has taken the lead in this area, and has requested an Australian Volunteer to build capacity in procurement, distribution and warehousing. The volunteer will work within the UNICEF Emergency Team and support other agencies including the National Emergency Management Agency and Mongolian Red Cross.

Key to this assignment will be identifying solutions to bottlenecks in procurement, distribution and warehousing, and developing and delivering training to partner agencies.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

- Experience in commercial or government transportation and ancillary sectors
- Experience in technical assessments, flights operations, port operations or warehouse or fleet management
- Ability to analyse and enhance procurement, distribution and warehousing chains
