Source(s):  Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)

Resolution of the 113th IPU Assembly (Geneva, 19 October 2005)

This resolution was adopted by 550 parliamentarians from 130 countries at the 113th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held in Geneva from 17 to 19 October 2005, to consider the necessity to establish an effective international disaster reduction strategy and to make steadfast efforts to facilitate rescue, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities in post-disaster situations.

Additionally this resolution expresses solidarity with the populations and groups affected by natural hazards, in particular the victims of the devastating earthquake that rocked South Asia on 8 October 2005.
