Weathering future storms in the Seychelles
This brochure is part of a series highlighting the World Bank's achievements in disaster risk management initiatives. It presents an innovative Damage Needs and Loss Assessment (DaLA) - performed in the wake of a tropical cyclone Felleng, which battered the multi-island country with heavy rain in 2013 - to evaluate the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the storm, as well as to quantify what is needed to increase resilience to future disasters. It further reports on the proposed disaster recovery framework on flood-risk management, risk transfer and insurance mechanisms, and the establishment of medium-term and long-term goals by the government of Seychelles.
