IUCN key messages for UNFCCC CoP-20
In this position paper, IUCN seizes the opportunity of the negotiations at Lima to present its position on: (i) broader issues and developments framing the CoP-20 negotiations, including climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, and encourages greater synergies among the three Rio Conventions, the forthcoming Sustainable Development Goals and the post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction, and other relevant international agreements; (ii) specific high-level decisions expected at CoP-20 considering their significant adaptation, sustainable development, biodiversity conservation and disaster risk reduction co-benefits; and (iii) specific thematic issues, such as the Adaptation Committee, for it to work with relevant organizations to identify linkages and synergies between adaptation and mitigation, and adaptation and disaster risk reduction, among others, to maximise the on-ground impact in terms of reducing vulnerabilities and enhancing the resilience of both ecosystems and communities.
