South Africa: City reveals plans to minimise winter flooding in risk areas

Source(s):  New Age, The, TNA Media Ltd

Plans to prevent winter flooding were announced by the city of Cape Town yesterday, reports the New Age. The city's disaster risk management centre (DRM) had also entered into an agreement with the neighbouring Swartland municipality to institute the early warning system, according to the report.

Targeting the homeless in particular, information is being distributed in Xhosa, English and Afrikaans in addition to issuing alerts. Safety and security mayoral committee member Jean-Pierre Smith asserted that the city aims to provide "a safe, clean and dignified environment."
