Scientists find new way to map earthquakes

Source(s): Australian Broadcasting Corporation

A new mathematical model suing seismic wave recordings to accurately map earthquakes and underground fault lines has been discovered by Australian seismologists. According to ABC News, scientists say the discovery could help save lives and property.

"If we can start to understand the earthquake processes in more detail, we will be able to do better earthquake hazard mapping," said seismologist, David Robinson, "and it is this product, this earthquake hazard map, which leads directly into things like the building codes, insurance pricing, and various other risk mitigation processes."
