"This trend is mainly due to improved preparedness and response capacities in the Asia and Pacific region," said the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction at the launch of the Global assessment report on disaster risk reduction 2011.

The region's 200 national and regional disaster risk management stakeholders gather at the 3rd Session of the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management in Auckland, New Zealand, to endorse a roadmap for disaster risk management and climate change adaptation.
