In a small room on Deck 6 of the Ocean Dream, youth leaders from four African countries hashed out a strategy for disaster risk reduction (DRR) on their continent as part of a collaborative project between the Peace Boat Disaster Relief Volunteer Center (PBV) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), reports National Geographic.

“Youth have been really pushing to be included in DRR processes,” said Isabel Njihia, Information Management Analyst at the UNISDR Regional Office for Africa in Nairobi, who helped to coordinate the onboard programme. “We found it important to invest in this process, to help the youth to create an action plan that can make them relevant.”
