Myanmar: Unusual rainfall patterns due to climate change

The Myanmar Times reports that 'Climate change has had a significant impact on Myanmar over the past five years and 2009 was no exception, an official from the [Myanmar] Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) said last month'.

The article also cites the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction and the World Meteorological Organisation joint statement regarding 2009 disaster events, stating that '224 of the 245 disasters in 2009 were weather-related' and that '95% of the total affected by natural hazards – were due to extreme weather events'.
