Lessons learnt from Australian Capital Territory fires

10 years after the devastating Canberra fire, which claimed 4 lives and burned down 500 homes, the heatwave is just as bad as before and fires are still threatening citizens, however, the territory is better prepared. The government and the fire services have made investments to reduce fire hazards and the community is better informed.

"There is no doubt in my mind that as a community, as a city, as a government, we are better prepared to deal with the ever-present threat of bushfires," Emergency Services Minister Simon Corbell told AAP, as reported by The Australian.
