Source(s): Business Standard Ltd

Following the devastation in parts of Uttarakhand, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) is expected to make a proposal on Thursday to create a network of laboratories in the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-13 to 2016-17) for managing epidemic and natural calamity, reports Business Standard.

According to the proposal effective early warning systems should to be set up in all the levels to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of warning signals to vulnerable communities and to reduce vulnerability of the population to hazards.

Authors of the proposal advise the set up of a mechanism for disaster risk reduction in respect of earthquake, flood, drought, tsunami, cyclones, forest fire, chemical nuclear and biological disasters.
