India taking lead role to make 'disaster risk reduction' a success

India was among 187 UN member countries that on Wednesday signed a new protocol, replacing the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-15, committing to a new development model, a far reaching new framework for disaster risk reduction (DRR) with seven targets and four priorities for action.

The official team from India was led by Home minister Rajnath Singh who had on Tuesday announced India was taking a lead role in the Asia Pacific to make DRR a success in the region. India also announced it would be hosting the next Asian Ministerial Conference in 2016.
