Fiji: Community based disaster risk management project draws upon local knowledge

The project which began in October aims to draw upon local and traditional knowledge will run until 2013.

The Principal Disaster Management Officer, Aisea Quminakelo said the flood warning system - a main aim of the project - '...will have an automatic signal which will alert the community when the water level rises and this will signal out a longer lead time that flood will happen and enable the Ba communities to respond effectively', speaking to the Fiji Times.
