Disaster risk reduction platform concludes with 14-point commitment

'The conference expressed satisfaction over the notable progress made in the enforcement of the Hyogo Framework for Action and over the national priority given to disaster risk reduction by almost all the countries' reports Sriram Singh Basnet for the Nepalese-based República on the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, held last week in Geneva.

The report affirms that in addition to calling for increased investments in disaster risk reduction: "Extensive deliberations were also held on the increasing risk of nuclear plants, climate change, gender issues in terms of disaster, formulation and enforcement of legislation, education and safe schools, forest fire and involvement of private sector in disaster risk reduction."
